I think the manufacturer expects you to leave it on all the time, but sorry, no sirree are we going to waste electricity that way. It takes FOREVER to start up to print after you first turn it on. While the all-in-one options on this printer are great and the print quality is good, I cannot help but be really disappointed with two aspects of this printer:ДЎ. It actually took me a number of years to figure out everything this is capable of just because I didn't need it for those things early on but now that I do I'm really glad I have it, and just hope it will last my lifetime. It isn't always perfect but it does a pretty decent job.

If scanning several photos the software will try to automatically align them for straightness. It will scan negatives AND slides directly to photographs. I love being able to scan directly to a thumb drive or memory card, but there's also the option of using my super old copy of PaintShopPro, and the Canon software.

I just started buying cheap knock-offs for most of our printing jobs and they work perfectly well. Problems I ran into with it was that it absolutely hated refilled ink cartridges. I've been using this since third-quarter of 2011 and if nothing else it deserves four points for the fact it still prints just as it did on the day it was new, the scanner works flawlessly, and the scanning software that comes with it is awesome for bulk scanning photos.
